Exam 1: Tuesday October 29 (in class)
Material for the first exam: Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (Chapter 6 is assigned as optional reading, but is not part of the material for the exam. The special review exercises from chapter 6 included in homework 2 correspond to material from earlier chapters.)
Percentiles for Exam 1 scores: 25th percentile = 52; median = 70; 75th percentile = 86

Final Exam: Tuesday December 10, 12pm--2pm (two-hour final)

Course grade distribution: Final exam: 40%; Exams 1 and 2: 55% (with 20% used for the lower exam score and 35% for the higher exam score); Homework: 5%
RULES FOR ALL EXAMS
• All three exams are closed-book, closed notes. The only items you can use during each exam is a piece of paper with your notes (see below), and a standard calculator.
• You may bring one (letter size) piece of paper with notes on both sides. You can include notes, formulas, definitions, etc. from the textbook and the lecture nores. You can not include solutions to homework exercises. You must write your name and student ID number on the piece of paper and submit it with your exam paper. You will be able to get it back, along with your exam paper, for the two exams given during the quarter. Final exam papers are not returned.
• The use of cell phones is not allowed.
• Your photo ID will be checked when you submit your exam paper, so please make sure you have it with you for all exams.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AND MISCONDUCT
Suspected academic misconduct during any of the exams, such as copying from other students or using any materials other than the calculator and the piece of paper with your notes, will be dealt with following the Academic Misconduct Policy for Undergraduates. The academic sanction for misconduct in a particular exam will be a score of 0 in the exam.
